Thankfully, this is the Japanese countryside. My local post office apparently knows me well enough to figure out exactly where it belonged, and the package arrived safely at my door. Crisis averted.

I already did a little BudsBrain H4CBH review slash mention in my picks of the month post because I couldn’t wait to spread the word.

I won this two-pack from BudsBrain, so I went into it with zero expectations. The packaging itself is pretty simple: a plain black ziplock with a second clear bag inside protecting two neatly rolled pre-rolls. There wasn’t any product label attached, so I actually had to jump back onto BudsBrain’s X account to remind myself what cannabinoids were inside. (For the record: H4CBH, CBD, CBG, cannabis-derived terpenes, plus a moringa and blue lotus herbal base.)

Then I opened the bag. Holy. Hell.

Table of Contents

Quick Read Scores

BudsBrain H4CBH Joint Review

Who is this for?

Final Thoughts

Quick Read Scores

Taste: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4.5/5)

Aroma: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Smoothness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)

Burn Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)

Head High: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5)

Body High: ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4.5/5)

Euphoria: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Munchies: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5 – feral raccoon mode activated)

Duration: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.8/5)

BudsBrain H4CBH Joint Review

I’ve reviewed a lot of legal cannabinoid products in Japan over the years, and this was the first pre-roll that genuinely made me stop in my tracks. The aroma was unmistakably cannabis-like. Dank, earthy and pleasantly familiar. But let’s keep expectations realistic. This isn’t cracking open a jar of top-shelf Canadian flower. I’d compare it more to a respectable mid-to-lower-tier cannabis strain. But in Japan’s legal cannabinoid market? That’s a massive compliment.

The cannabis-derived terpenes clearly aren’t just marketing buzzwords here because they’re doing some serious heavy lifting. Even better, the flavour actually carried through once lit. Plenty of herbal blends smell promising but lose all personality after the first puff. This one stayed surprisingly authentic from start to finish, making it one of the closest legal experiences I’ve had to traditional flower in terms of aroma and taste.

Effects started creeping in around the 30-minute mark before settling into a genuinely enjoyable hybrid experience. It kicked off with a wave of euphoria, plenty of giggles and that classic “everything is just a little bit funnier” feeling. As time went on, the body relaxation gradually took over without completely gluing me to the couch.

One thing that really impressed me was the duration. The first time I smoked one, I kept thinking I’d top things up later with a liquid but… I never did. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I genuinely kept forgetting. Which meant I definitely didn’t need a top up of anything (except snacks). It had that wonderfully nostalgic “wait… what was I doing again?” quality that longtime cannabis users will probably recognize instantly. The high comfortably lasted for several hours, making it feel much more satisfying than products that disappear after 45 minutes.

And yes. The munchies arrived with absolutely zero shame. I’m talking full-on feral raccoon rummaging through the kitchen looking for absolutely anything edible.

Overall, BudsBrain has created one of the most convincing legal pre-roll experiences I’ve had in Japan. The authentic aroma alone makes it memorable, while the long-lasting hybrid effects, genuine euphoria and surprisingly faithful flavour make it one I’d happily revisit whenever it’s back in stock.

If you’ve been searching for a legal Japanese pre-roll that comes closer than most to capturing the familiar smell, taste and laid-back vibe of traditional cannabis, this one is absolutely worth keeping an eye on. And going forward, I’d like to try more of BudsBrain’s offerings, especially now that I know they use cannabis derived terpenes.

Who is this for?

✅ Anyone who misses the smell and taste of traditional cannabis.

✅ People looking for a long-lasting hybrid effect.

✅ Those who want the convenience of a ready-to-smoke pre-roll.

⚠️ Probably not the best choice for absolute beginners, as the effects build gradually and last for several hours.

Final Thoughts

Would I buy BudsBrain’s H4CBH joints and smoke them again? Absolutely. The authentic cannabis aroma alone makes this one stand out in Japan’s legal cannabinoid market. Add in the enjoyable hybrid effects and long duration, and it’s an easy recommendation—provided you can catch it before it sells out.

Quick note: This product was provided to me as a review sample or won in a contest.
