With Japan’s CBN ban officially set for June 1, 2026, the big question right now is: what’s next?
Brands aren’t sitting around waiting — they’re already experimenting. And one altnoid name that’s started going around is CBV (cannabivarin). Until now, it’s mostly been theoretical. But thanks to a recent test and early impressions shared by a production lead at Kush JP, we finally have a glimpse at what CBV in Japan might actually feel like.
Could CBV Be the Next CBN Alternative?

・キック感 → やや強め(CBGより少し上)
・5〜10分

→ 少し頭を引っ張られる感覚あり
・30〜40分

体感はシャキッと感のないCBGっぽい感じ。

So… what is CBV like?
From the early report:
- Texture is fine and easy to work with (similar to CBN isolate)
- Stable even at higher concentrations (no crystallization issues)
- Effects come on fairly quickly (within 5–10 minutes)
But here’s where it gets interesting. The effects were described as:
- A light, clear-headed stimulation (not heavy or sedating)
- Slight head tension or “pull” sensation
- Mild relaxation, but not deeply calming
And the biggest takeaway? It’s not a CBN replacement. If anything, CBV seems closer to CBG or CBDV — functional, subtle, and more “daytime-friendly” than cozy.
What this means (for now) – Could CBV be the next CBN Alternative?
If you’re hoping for that classic CBN-style melt-into-the-couch experience… this probably isn’t it.
But as part of a blend? For entourage effects? CBV actually looks very promising. And this is exactly what we’re starting to see across Japan right now — brands shifting away from single heavy hitters and toward smarter formulations.
In the meantime…
If you’re still enjoying CBN, the clock is officially ticking. This might be the last window to experience it properly before everything changes.
If you were sitting on the couch with me, this is what I’d hand you:
- A solid CBN option like KUSH JP’s Super Indica (psychoactive) or CBN Pro (non-psychoactive)
- If you really want to melt – my tried, tested, and very psychoactive true love, Couch Lock
- Or, if you’re hanging out for a while, I’ll alternate between Super Sativa/Super Hybrid/Super Indica (psychoactive) or CBG/CBD/CBN (non-psychoactive). Why not make a whole day of it?
The post-CBN era is coming — and it’s going to look a little different. But I have no doubts that while CBV may not be the CBN replacement we were hoping for, CBD and altnoid vendors in Japan will come up with something new to keep us relaxed. And for now, let’s stay (legally) lifted 🍃

KUSH JP 3-Pack: SUPER Sativa, SUPER Indica & Afghan Kush SUPER Hybrid (3 x 1ml)
If you’ve been eyeing a couple of these already, this is a very good deal.
