Who am I, and what is this blog?

Fair question.

Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first: no, I’m not an AI bot. I’m a real person in Japan who really tries these products, really writes these reviews, and really spends far too much time chasing the perfect legal buzz.

I do use AI sometimes to help tidy drafts, organize thoughts, or make complicated cannabinoid info easier to understand, but the opinions here are mine. The experiences are mine. The reviews are mine. If I say something slapped, flopped, surprised me, or tasted like regret, that came from me.

Hi! I’m Mary Jane.

I’m a Japanese-Canadian living in Japan who loves getting lifted legally.

Back in Canada, I was fully on team cannabis legalization and got to see what a regulated THC market can look like when it’s done properly. Living in Japan is, obviously, a very different story. Here, staying within the law is non-negotiable. But that does not mean curiosity disappears, and it definitely does not mean the desire for a good chill magically disappears either.

So when I discovered Japan’s strange, fast-moving, wildly creative world of legal and not-yet-regulated alternative cannabinoids, I was fascinated. I still am.

What started as personal curiosity turned into a bit of a mission. I wanted to know what was actually worth trying, what felt good, what felt sketchy, what helped me relax, what helped me focus, and what was mostly just clever packaging. Somewhere along the way, this blog was born.

What You’ll Find Here

I write reviews, explain cannabinoids in plain English, share what I’ve learned, and try to make this whole space feel less confusing and more human. A lot of this industry can feel like a maze of weird acronyms, bold claims, mystery blends, and people pretending every cart is the second coming. That’s not really my style.

What This Blog is Not

This is not a hype machine. I’m not here to push products I don’t believe in, pretend everything is amazing, or talk you into buying stuff for the sake of it. I’m also not here to encourage anyone to break the law. In fact, the opposite. I am strongly against breaking any laws in Japan, or anywhere else.

This blog is about curiosity, harm reduction, honest reviews, and helping people make smarter choices in a space that can be confusing, under-explained, and sometimes a little too eager to oversell itself. If I think something is great, I’ll say so. But I can’t guarantee what will

I only feature products I genuinely enjoy, so if something doesn’t work for me, it simply won’t be included here.

And just to be crystal clear: Mary Jane in Japan covers legal cannabinoid products and retailers. I don’t know where to buy illegal cannabis in Japan, I’m not secretly holding out on you, and please don’t ask me where your cousin’s friend bought weed in Shinjuku, because I have no clue and don’t even want to know.

Why I Do This

Because I enjoy it. I like the science (even if I don’t always understand it). I like the trial and error. I like the ridiculousness of this whole “what on earth is this new cannabinoid and what does it actually do?” game. I like finding products that feel good, fit real life, and most importantly in Japan – stay on the right side of the law. But most of all, I like sharing what I find.

If this blog helps you discover something that works for you, understand the space better, or just feel a little less alone in your curiosity, then it is doing its job.

私は誰？このブログって何？

いい質問です。

まず最初にハッキリさせておきたいのは…私はAIじゃありません。ちゃんと日本に住んでいるリアルな人間で、実際にこれらの製品を試して、実際にレビューを書いて、そして合法的に楽しめる“ちょうどいいチル”を追い求めて、かなりの時間を費やしています。

もちろん、文章を整えたり、情報をわかりやすくしたりするためにAIを使うことはあります。でも、ここに書いている意見は全部私のもの。体験も、レビューも、すべて私自身のものです。「これは当たりだった」「微妙だった」「意外だった」「ちょっと後悔したかも」…そういう感想は、全部リアルな体験から来ています。

日本に住んでいる日系カナダ人で、「合法的にチルする」のが大好きです。

カナダにいた頃は、大麻の合法化を応援していて、しっかり規制されたTHC市場がどれだけうまく機能するかも実際に見てきました。でも、日本での生活はもちろんまったく別の話。ここでは法律を守ることが絶対です。

とはいえ、好奇心が消えるわけでもないし、「ちょっといい感じにリラックスしたいな」という気持ちがなくなるわけでもありません。

そんな中で、日本のちょっと不思議で、変化が早くて、めちゃくちゃクリエイティブな「合法（またはまだ規制されていない）カンナビノイドの世界」を知ったとき、純粋にワクワクしました。

そして今も、ずっと面白いと思っています。

最初はただの興味でした。でも気づけば、「実際どれがいいの？」「何が本当に効果あるの？」「安心できるのは？」「ちょっと怪しいのは？」そんなことをちゃんと知りたくなって、気づいたらこのブログができていました。

このブログでわかること

私は、実際に試した商品のレビューを書いたり、カンナビノイドについてできるだけわかりやすく説明したり、自分が学んだことをシェアしたりしながら、この世界を少しでも「わかりにくいもの」ではなく、もっと身近で人間味のあるものにしたいと思っています。

この業界って、謎の略語、大げさな宣伝文句、よくわからないブレンド、そして何でもかんでも「これが革命！」みたいに持ち上げる空気で、ちょっと迷路みたいに感じることがありますよね。

でも、そういうのはあまり私のスタイルではありません。

このブログが“やらないこと”

ここは、何でも持ち上げるための場所ではありません。自分が良いと思っていない商品を無理におすすめしたり、何でも「最高！」と言ったり、ただ買わせるために商品をすすめたりするつもりもありません。

そしてもちろん、法律を破ることを誰かに勧めるためのブログでもありません。むしろ、その逆です。私は日本はもちろん、どこの国であっても、法律に違反することには強く反対しています。

このブログで大切にしているのは、好奇心、ハームリダクション、正直なレビュー、そして少しわかりにくく、説明不足なことも多く、ときにはちょっと盛りすぎなこの世界で、読者のみなさんがより納得して選べるようにすることです。

良いと思ったものは、もちろん良いと言います。でも、私に合ったものがあなたにも同じように合うとは限りません。カンナビノイドの感じ方には、かなり個人差があります。

ここで紹介しているのは、私自身が本当に気に入った商品のみです。逆に、私には合わなかったものや、あまり良いと思えなかったものは、基本的にここには掲載していません。

念のため、ここははっきりさせておきます。Mary Jane in Japanで取り上げているのは、合法なカンナビノイド製品と、それを扱うお店です。日本で違法な大麻がどこで手に入るのか、私は知りませんし、こっそり情報を隠しているわけでもありません。なので、「いとこの友達が新宿で草を買ったらしいんだけど、どこ？」みたいなことは聞かないでください。本当に知りませんし、知りたいとも思っていません。

なぜこれをやっているのか

純粋に、私自身がこの世界を楽しんでいるからです。科学的な部分も好きです（全部を完璧に理解できているわけではないけど😂）。試して、比べて、失敗して、また試す。その繰り返しも好き。

そして何より、この「で、今度の新しいカンナビノイドは一体なんなの？実際どう感じるの？」という、ちょっとばかばかしくて面白いゲームみたいな感じが好きなんです。

日常に取り入れやすくて、自分に合っていて、そして日本では何より大事なこととして、ちゃんと法律の範囲内で楽しめる商品を見つけるのも好きです。でも一番好きなのは、見つけたものや感じたことをみなさんとシェアすること。

このブログをきっかけに、自分に合うものを見つけられたり、この世界のことが少しわかりやすくなったり、あるいは「こんなこと気になってるの、自分だけじゃないんだ」と少しでも感じてもらえたなら、それでこのブログの役目は果たせていると思っています。
