Review: TEMP Northern Lights Herb

There’s something about rolling a joint that slows life down in the best possible way. And this one really understood the assignment.

I was gifted a 0.5g pre-roll joint of TEMP’s Northern Lights Herb with Mr. Jane, and from the very sniff, I knew this was going to be different.

First Impressions of Temp’s Northern Lights Herb: It’s Closer Than Expected

Let’s talk smell and texture, because this is where a lot of herb-style products fall apart. And this didn’t. It’s not overly perfumey or artificial (thank god), but it’s also not trying too hard to mimic the real thing either. It lands somewhere in that sweet spot where you go, “oh… okay, this is actually kind of legit.”

Texture-wise? Light, fluffy, slightly sticky—aka exactly what you want when rolling. No dry dust, no weird clumps. Just easy, satisfying prep. And once it’s lit? That Northern Lights profile really starts to come through. It’s earthy, a little woody, with a soft hint of spice. Not loud, but definitely present. Enough that… yeah, maybe don’t smoke this right outside your local koban 😅

What Makes This Different (And Why It Matters)

TEMP isn’t just throwing cannabinoids onto random herbs, they’re actually thinking about the base. This blend uses herbs like raspberry leaf, damiana, and lemon myrtle, chosen not just for flavor—but for how their natural terpenes and flavonoids contribute to the overall effect.

There’s also a more involved infusion process here. Instead of just coating the outside, cannabinoids are worked deep into the plant material using heat and pressure, then reabsorbed along with the terpenes during a sealed resting phase.

This winds up translating to a smoother smoke, more even burn and effects that feel integrated, not sprayed-on if that makes any sense.

The Smoking Experience

We took about 10-15 minutes to smoke the joint (it was so pleasant that I lost count of time a bit), and I cannot overstate how much I love that slow ritual. About 5 minutes in—midway through—I got the most unexpected little surprise: A cheeky (literally) hit. Not behind the eyes. Not in the chest. In the cheeks.

Like that tangy Welch’s grape juice feeling where your face just kind of reacts before your brain catches up. It actually made me smile without even thinking about it. Abd from there, things got… chatty.

Effects: From Social to Sleepy

For the first hour, Mr. Jane and I were fully in that cozy, conversational zone. Easy laughter, relaxed vibes, nothing too heavy. That’s the HHBD doing its thing—giving you that initial lift and presence. But then…The H4CBH slowly creeps in underneath it. And once it settled, we weren’t going anywhere.

This shifts very clearly into true indica territory. Not “maybe hybrid” like I first thought. No no. This is:

👉 body melting
👉 couch-lock adjacent
👉 snacks mandatory
👉 sleep inevitable

It’s not a knockout punch—but it’s a deep, steady pull downward into relaxation that just… lingers.

The Aftermath

Sleep? Most excellent. That slow, heavy, sink into the mattress kind of sleep. The next morning, there was a slight lingering body feel—but nothing unpleasant. If anything, it felt like a soft afterglow.

Strength & Who This Is For

Let’s be real—herb format will almost always feel a bit lighter than liquid. But this? It comes surprisingly close.

With HHBD (200mg) + H4CBH (450mg) per 5g, you’re getting a layered effect:

  • HHBD = quick onset, mood lift
  • H4CBH = long, calming body effect

So instead of a spike and drop, it’s more like a wave that rolls in and stays awhile.

That said…

⚠️ This is definitely not beginner territory.
Even TEMP labels this as 上級者向け (advanced users)—and I agree.

Final Thoughts & Where to Buy

This is one of those products that doesn’t scream at you, it just quietly does its thing… and does it very well. Is it the strongest I’ve ever had? No. Did I enjoy the hell out of it? Absolutely. It really does sit somewhere close enough to the real thing to satisfy me.

A 4/5 feels right. It hits that sweet spot where you’re relaxed, happy, and very content to cancel any and all plans you thought you had. And if you’ve been missing the ritual of rolling, lighting, and slowly sinking into your evening… this one gets surprisingly close to the real experience. Cozy, familiar, and just a little bit indulgent.

It comes in a couple of easy options depending on your mood:

  • Loose herb (3.5g can or 5g refill pouch)
  • Pre-rolls (approx. 0.5g each) if you’d rather skip the effort and get straight to the good part

Price:

  • Around ¥2,300 – ¥11,800 (tax included) depending on size and format

This is the kind of thing I’d keep on hand for nights when I want to unwind, snack a little too much, and end up having one of those accidentally perfect sleeps.
