I’m admittedly a couple of months behind on getting this one out of my drafts folder, but on a recent trip to Nagoya, I made sure to poke around the city’s legal cannabinoid scene in person. Nagoya doesn’t seem to shout quite as loudly about its altnoid shops as Osaka or Tokyo, but that certainly doesn’t mean there’s nothing interesting happening.
I made it to two shops myself, with very different experiences and reasons to return, and found a third that immediately landed on my list for next time. So, rather than pretending I exhaustively investigated every CBD-adjacent corner of Nagoya, here are three places I’d personally visit again, or genuinely want to.
And, as always, we’re talking about legal cannabinoid products and businesses here.
1. メイヂ健康大麻油カンナビスショップ (meidioil Meiji Health Cannabis Oil Shop) — Sakae
If convenience matters, this one is hard to beat. メイヂ健康大麻油カンナビスショップ is tucked into the underground shopping area near Sakae Station, making it incredibly easy to pop into while you’re already exploring central Nagoya. No elaborate expedition required. The shop currently lists its Sakae location at 3-5-12 Sakae, Naka-ku, in the Sakae underground shopping area, just a few minutes from the station.
What impressed me most was the selection. When I visited, I found familiar products from Knockout alongside CHILLAXY/GOODCHILL, including several things I already knew from online browsing and reviewing. Even better, I spotted some products priced slightly below what I was accustomed to seeing online. In a country where walking into a physical specialty shop does not usually inspire expectations of bargain hunting, that caught my attention.
This is also a shop where I think it helps to arrive with at least a general idea of what you want. It’s easy to browse independently, and for someone already familiar with Japan’s cannabinoid brands, the shelves are the main attraction.
What I liked: Excellent location, a surprisingly strong selection of familiar brands and some very competitive prices when I visited.
2. 煙屋 SMOKE SHOP & VAPE GARAGE — Shinsakae
Kemuriya sits at Shine Building 206, 1-6-3 Shinsakae, Naka-ku, making it an easy stop if you’re exploring central Nagoya. And it gave me a completely different kind of experience, making it one of my favourite Nagoya stops now.
The shop carries its own VAPE GARAGE products alongside smoking accessories and other cannabinoid goods, but what stood out most was how comfortable the whole place felt. The staff were warm, friendly and happy to chat, there was room to hang around for a while, and nothing about the atmosphere felt intimidating or overly precious.
Full disclosure: I wasn’t exactly operating at peak undercover-Mary-Jane levels here. I arrived as a blogger alongside a fellow affiliate and someone working in CBD distribution, so it’s entirely possible we received a little extra attention. Still, even accounting for the possibility of some light VIP treatment, the place felt genuinely relaxed and welcoming rather than performative.
And I got free stickers. I am a simple woman.
What I liked: Friendly people, interesting house products, somewhere you can actually linger for a bit and, obviously, stickers.
3. Dr.Vapor — Osu
And now for the one I haven’t visited yet, because I refuse to pretend every travel guide on the internet is written by someone who has personally inspected every doorway mentioned in it.
Dr.Vapor in Osu caught my attention because it takes a slightly different approach. It describes itself as a long-running Nagoya VAPE specialist that also handles CBD, with staff support aimed at beginners as well as experienced users. The shop is at 4-2-47 Osu, about five minutes from Kamimaezu Station, and currently opens from noon to 9 p.m., closing Thursdays.
What really moved it onto my list, though, is the setup. Dr.Vapor offers free tasting of vape liquids and devices before purchase, including CBD liquids according to its FAQ, and has an attached café/free space called BLANK SPACE where customers can sit down rather than treating the place as a purely grab-and-go shop. And that combination sounds particularly appealing for people who are newer to vaping and actually want someone to explain what they’re looking at instead of staring thoughtfully at a wall of mysterious equipment and hoping enlightenment arrives.
And frankly, I like shops that encourage customers to hang around and ask questions. Cannabinoid culture is considerably more interesting when it feels like a conversation instead of a vending machine.
What I like: The beginner-friendly approach, the chance to try things before buying and the café/free-space element. This one is firmly earmarked for my next Nagoya visit.
A Few Things to Know Before Cannabinoid Shopping in Nagoya
As always in Japan, the cannabinoid market moves quickly. Products disappear, formulas change, regulations change, and something I saw during a visit a couple of months ago may not necessarily still be on the shelf today. If you’re travelling specifically for one product, check the shop’s current website or social media before making the journey.
And that’s particularly worth remembering when older shop pages or search results appear on Google. A page existing on the internet does not magically freeze Japan’s cannabinoid laws in the year it was published. Current rules win.
And no, I don’t think there’s one obvious “best” cannabinoid shop in Nagoya. The Sakae shop impressed me with its convenient location and product selection. Kemuriya won me over with warmth, personality and its own products. Dr.Vapor appeals to the part of me that likes specialist shops where asking questions is actively encouraged. Three very different reasons to go through three different doors.
I’m also not done exploring. There are other CBD cafés, bars and shops dotted around Nagoya, so this is less “The Definitive Mary Jane Encyclopedia of Nagoya” and more a snapshot of places that first caught my attention.
And because apparently my drafts folder likes to work several months behind my actual feet, Osaka is coming next.
